Repair, Care, Repeat

On the given theme of ‘service’ the more I ruminated on it the more the word opened up, blossomed, unfurled. and I saw it everywhere everything “serving” its purpose for something as it is in nature. Service doesn’t have to save the world, it makes the world. And it needs to be practiced today, tomorrow, and the next.
I feel my public works are the closest to being a service that I get with an artwork, the accessibility makes it more like a public service and the physical labor makes it feel more like a sacrifice, the kind of work that makes a beer at the end of the day feel well deserved. I had been making small works on paper for about a week, feeling happy enough about that but when I walked into the gallery in Singapore and saw the column I knew I wanted to paint it. I’m sure I broke a lot of gallery “rules” (Singapore is the king of rules) but what fun it was and it certainly couldn’t have been possible to complete so quickly without lots of wonderful help from many fellow artists whom I cannot thank enough.
